Little Susie's Cottage Christmas 2015 - Shabby Chic Frenchy Victorian Fluffy Puffy Chiffon Tree Skirt ~ Tutorial

I made the sweetest lil' Chiffon Christmas Tree Skirt.....

I didn't know we were putting up a tree this year, so earlier in the week, I had used the round top and gold skirt we normally put the tree on, to set up a side table of Christmas Pretties in the corner of our living room....

So I'm sittin' n relaxin' and enjoying Jewel singing on my tv during the CMT Country Music Awards... thinking we're not putting up a tree.... and Enjoying my new Silver and Gold Table ....

So of course, that's right when when Mr Susie's Cottage announced he wanted to get the tree out this year!! Oh hello, I already used my tree skirt and round top for the corner :)

So,  then I remembered a bride gave me all her ''wedding tenting chiffon" this summer after her wedding...so I quick made up this new shabby chic ruffle skirt for a new tabletop for the tree...

BUT then, (of course there's always a but, lol)...when we got out the tree, the tree stand legs were too big for this new round top table, and we tried a rectangle box instead of the round top, but it's just not working for me, lol.......alas....it's always sumpin...lolol/////.

So,  while I'm thinking of what to put my tree on this year....(ha!)...I figured the skirt was so pretty that I'd do a simple Tutorial post about how I made it.....it's really easy, and I thought it came out so pretty for a relatively fast 'n easy project....Tutorial Below Pix....

Good....can't wait to put the tree on....lol....

yep...i liked it from this side too....sweet and whimsical, seems to compliment the dressing table nicely,.lol.....

then we got the tree out........oh heaven help me.....nooooooooooo...stupeed tree won't fit on the new tabletop!!.....oh well......who thought to measure it :).....not me! lol.....

so for now I plopped our tree on top of a rectangle box......''not thrilled with it''...to say the least :)

Leave it to Me to do a Dang Clown Show Christmas!! lol...someone hand me an inflatable tire pump ;0...
It's SO ADORABLE on the round table. I'm now going to have to finagle something bigger and ROUND (dab-nab-it, lol) to hold our tree.  So, until I get that done for my tree and post some pix of that deal ~
Here's the way I made a cute round TREE SKIRT....in less than an hour....lol.....

Romantic Victorian French Shabby Chic Fluffy Puffy Chiffon Christmas Tree Skirt
- Tutorial by Little Susie's Cottage

1) I just cut an 8ft length of 6ft (72inches) wide chiffon....

2) Folded it in half length-wise...
    (so my fabric was now Double-Thickness 8ft x 3ft (36 inches)

3) I then Measured from the center of my tabletop to the floor
     (mine was 20inches + I added 4inches for puddling)

4 ) 20inches/center of tabletop to floor  +  4inches/for puddling  =  24 inches
(48inches would be your total FINISHED LENGTH from the floor on one side, across the tabletop, to the other side of the floor, but you don't need to think about that number :)

5) One side of your 8ft length is folded, and One side has 2 open ends which will puddle onto the floor....

6 ) I measured 24" from the 2 OPEN ENDS SIDE, or 12" from the FOLDED SIDE,
and along that imaginary line, I hand-sewed (can be done by machine too)
a loose stitched straight GATHERING STITCH all across the full 8ft length....

7) Knot off the GATHERING STITCH you just sewed to secure it.

8 ) Then fold the 12" section, down onto the 24" section & pull up the GATHERING STITCH ...
BUT DON'T KNOT IT YET... FIRST CHECK YOUR FIT in the next steps

9)  CHECK THE FIT AROUND YOUR TREE TRUNK:
All the gathers will automatically come together in the middle,  and form the LITTLE CENTER CIRCLE to fit around your Tree Trunk.   It will automatically create the 2nd layer of fluffy edge part that folds over and comes out from the center to make your double ruffle edge .... hard to explain, SUPER EASY TO DO, you just have to do it, and then watch the MAGIC HAPPEN :)

10)  HOW TO FINISH up the THE GATHERING STITCH:
Fit the skirt around your TREE TRUCK, and LEAVE A LITTLE EXTRA ON THE SIDES so that you have the 2 sides of the skirt overlap in the back after it wraps around your TREE TRUNK to form your skirt.....

11) Once you have your TREE TRUNK HOLE SIZE and EXTRA OVER-LAP EDGES decided, you can KNOT the end of the ''GATHERING STITCH" line tight to secure the STITCH.

*** Put it on your tabletop, wrap it around your TREE TRUNK, adjust your Gathers and Floor Puddles, & Enjoy your Whimsical Tree Skirt :)
